ABOUT THE HOUSE

When a child has a serious illness or is injured and requires special treatment, they often have to travel far from home to receive the medical care they need.

For the families and children facing such a stressful time it is a great relief to know that there is a place they can go where they can live together in a caring and welcoming environment – a place where families can gain the support of one another as they cope with the emotional crisis that accompanies the illness or injury of a child.

Ronald McDonald House at Yorkhill, Glasgow, opened in March 1996 and provides free accommodation for the families of long term and critically ill patients at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.  The hospital treats children from all over Scotland, the north of England and Northern Ireland and family stays in the House range from a few nights to over a year.
